What should I do to keep my carpet and upholstery clean?
Vacuum regularly with a high quality vacuum with a brush to keep the dirt from becoming embedded in the carpet fibers which can break down and give a worn appearance to the carpet even after it is professionally cleaned. Blot spills with a clean towel and, if necessary, wipe spill with a mild soap and water mixture, but never over-wet, as this causes “humping” and could eventually lead to paying for a carpet stretch job. Never use a commercial cleaner that could possibly dye the color of the carpet.
What method should I use to professionally clean my carpets and upholstery?
To get a deep down cleaning that won’t re-soil and doesn’t over-wet, use only the Von Schrader Air Cell Extraction Low Moisture Technology system. Other methods just do a surface cleaning and/or soak your carpet, causing possible damage to the backing and/or padding leaving your carpet an extremely long dry time.
How often should I get my carpets and upholstery cleaned?
Once a year should be sufficient; however, it depends on specific conditions. Normally, with kids or pets, once every nine months is recommended. With both kids and pets or other conditions where the carpet or upholstery is heavily soiled, it may need to be cleaned once every six months. Most importantly, you should not wait until you can see the dirt to have it cleaned!
Why do stains reappear after my carpets or upholstery have already been cleaned?
This is caused from over-wetting the material. Just as you may spill a drink or a pet has an accident, if you over-wet your carpet from the improper cleaning method, the dirt or stain is carried through the carpet backing only to reappear during the drying process as you walk on it. With the Von Schrader process, there is no chance of over-wetting because the dry foam only makes it to the base of the carpet fibers, not through the backing. So, you can have your carpets and/or upholstery cleaned as often as you would like without the worries of reappearing stains!
Can I just rent a machine and clean my carpets myself to save money?
Yes, not only can you rent one of these machines, you can purchase one from your local retail store. Bottom line, don’t waste your time or money, as these machines are not a substitute for a professional cleaning. They often consist of a small brush (no bigger than your vacuum cleaner’s) and some type of detergent that comes through a manually operated machine. These machines not only fail to provide a deep down cleaning, they can also over-wet your carpet, carrying dirt through the backing and taking the life off your carpeting and the padding. Again, there’s no replacement for the Von Schrader Low Moisture Air Cell Extraction system!
